PRIMARY COORDINATOR

Dear Parents,

As we come to the end of the year, I would like to congratulate each, and every student for their hard work and many achievements throughout 2020. It has been an unusually difficult year but on the other hand, still a valuable experience for all of us. Thank you to all parents for your amazing support working with your children and supporting us particularly during remote learning. To all our staff, you have been incredible in adapting to every situation that has come your way this year and at times, it was not easy.

Year 6

Best wishes also, to our wonderful Year 6s as they start the next stage of their educational journey at high school. We are proud of their achievements and know that we send them to their new secondary schools having had some wonderful and memorable experiences here at Sirius College.

Remember Year 6 students: The most important thing is being passionate about what you are doing and always give it your all.

Foundation 2021 Transition

It was a pleasure to see so many happy, smiling faces as the Foundation 2021 children attended their Orientation sessions on 18th and 25th November. They settled in well in the class and participated in fun activities. We look forward to seeing everyone next year for what we know will be an exciting year.

Tips for Parents During the Summer Break

As we emerged from online learning back into the classroom setting, we have noticed that our students’ ICT skills have improved dramatically and they have become more comfortable with these technologies, which is a positive. However, the negative impact of this increased confidence means that online safety of our students has become more important. We have been hearing our children playing games such as Roblox, Fortnite, etc which allows them to chat and play online with both students and people they know, as well as unknown peers. While some games have educational content, many of the most popular games emphasise negative themes and they can have elements which are inappropriate for primary aged children.

There are many educational games that students can have access to - however it is important that parents regulate their use - limit the amount of screen time that students are exposed to - is one suggestion. Also, ensuring that if children are playing online, allow video game playing or movie watching in the public areas of the home - no devices (Play Stations, I-pads, tablets, or phones) should be available for access in a child’s bedroom without an adult present.

Finally, enjoy the summer holidays everyone, and we look forward to seeing the children refreshed, and ready for many more achievements and successes next year.

Regards,
Mrs. Tarbinder Pandher
